Considerations of Color (and walls)

Posted by xTian

Many hose-aphiles stop me on the street and ask me if I ever brought this to a logical conclusion.

The answer is “yes”. Here is what I ended up doing. Shout out to my old lady, for basically spearheading this project soup to nuts.

Crush of the Week – Anita Sarkeesian

Posted by xTian

I love that this chick doesn’t even need to breathe when she is railing against media portrayals of women. She’s great. I mean who else can have a ten minute freak out of serious, thoughtful critism about Legos?!?!? Who!?!?!

In all seriousness, her breaking down how sexist sci fi can be is pretty good stuff….who knew Battlestar Galactica, in spite of its strong female characters, was basically “torture-porn” for freaks like me.

I mean I did, I was just hoping no one else would notice.

Is Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter the greatest movie idea ever?

Posted by xTian

The thing to ask yourself at the end of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter won’t be “Should that movie have been made?”. The question instead will clearly be “Does the human race need to make another movie or will an future attempt pale in comparison?”

Is Jeremy Lin here to save us all?

Step 2 of the Nerd Dance

In basketball terms, New York City is a place whose grasp exceeds its reach. Really it is the Babel of the basketball world and Madison Square Garden, though the self proclaimed “mecca of basketball”, is its Tower. New Yorkers think they own basketball in much the same way people from Indiana though. It’s completely out of hand, in a NY Basketball fan’s mind, players like Lebron James and Chris Paul cannot wait to forgo millions of dollars being thrown at them by upscale beach communities in Miami and Los Angeles to come play in NY. This is complete hogwash, and recent history has proven it.

Instead of the second coming of “Dollar” Bill Bradley or Walt “Clyde” Frazier, these fans are left to hope that a poorly constructed team of superstars can somehow how deliver them from grasp of the Pharoah (David Stern? No, I’m reaching…how about James Dolan? Yes, Cablevison/MSG/NY Knick Owner James Dolan, he’s terrible). Enter long time Hose favorite, Jeremy Lin.

Jeremy is the perfect fit for this collection of ball hogs and people who need someone else to create a shot for them. He’s no Steve Nash, He’s not even old Jason Kidd but belongs to NY and he’s awesome!

Why is Hoboken’s mayor so intent on ruining everything!?!?!

Posted by xTian

First, she ruins St. Patrick’s day , or at least Hoboken’s approximation of it, and now this!

Who does this woman think she is? It’s as though she has something against excessively drunk droves of white people prone to mildly racist outbursts

Pretty soon, people will only Hoboken as the birthplace of baseball, Frank Sinatra and where they filmed On The Waterfront… Who wants that?

Rest In Peace – Don Cornelius

Posted by xTian

I generally think that people who stand around crying over the death of people they don’t know are ridiculous. I mean there was no greater sign of the devolution of America into some cringe worthy semblance of the world in Super Sad Love Story than all those people leaving a bunch of candles at Apple Stores when Steve Jobs died. At what point did we kill Jesus and start praying to the alter of over priced products, good design and massive human rights violations? When? Did I get booted off the list serve or something?

Allow me to step outside of this for a minute and say that when I heard Don Cornelius had died I was pretty sad to hear it. Not because my current life will some how be less fulfilled with out him in it. That’s not the case and it would be an even sadder statement about me if it were. It has nothing to do with the present me but it is just another nail in the coffin of my being a kid and that gives me pause.

When I was a kid, my non-cable having ass was desperate for UHF entertainment I could find. For some reason, I found it, at least partially, on Saturday Mornings with a revitalized and syndicated Soul Train. I couldn’t even tell you how long I watched it but i remember watching it when i was very young and again later in my pre-teen years. Now that show evolved dramatically, veering from R&B and Disco towards hip hop and at some point, Don stopped hosting it and that took something away. Eventually, I lost interest but I remember it and it mattered and thinking back on those mornings make me smile even now.

Anyway, whatever. I just wanted to take a moment to wish him, his family and all of you – Peace Love and Sooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuul!

Monday Morning Office Dance Party – Black hole Sun Covered by D’Angelo

Posted by xTian

After a decade of ummm….who knows what (my guess smoking weed…), D’Angelo resurfaced in Sweden at a Roots concert. Exciting stuff for me, long time xtianophiles know me to be a big D’Angelo fan going way back…

For some reason, he “leaked” a demo of his cover Black Hole Sun…so that’s what you get…
